La Manga Information

La Manga, located in Murcia, Spain, is a popular resort town set on a small strip of land about 13 miles long. La Manga, which means "the sleeve" in English, is set between the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor. It offers numerous hotels, restaurants, shops and clubs.
  1. Formation

    • La Manga strip formed when volcanic reefs retained sand and other sediment as it moved back and forth between the Mediterranean and Mar Menor. Today, channels cut across the strip. La Manga was untouched by development until the 1960s.

    Tourism

    • La Manga is exclusively used for tourism and it is now one of the most expensive locations in the area. In the last 40 years of development, hotels, apartments, ports, shops, bars and discos have been built. Though busiest in summer, La Manga is a good place to visit in the winter if you want a quiet place.

    Sports

    • La Manga is very popular for those who like water sports such using catamarans and windsurfing. It is also home for numerous sailing and water skiing schools. There are three championship golf courses in La Manga.

    Getting There

    • La Manga is accessible by bus and car. The nearest airport is the Murcia San Javier Airport which services flights from not only Spain but other European cities as well.

    Beaches

    • The most popular beaches in La Manga are called Playa Honda and Playa de los Nietos. There are many cafes that line the beaches, so it is possible to have a drink and look out over the water.
