Chateau Versailles Tourist Information

The Chateau Versailles is only a short distance from Paris and draws many visitors due to its rich history and stunning architecture. The estate offers something for everyone, from art installations to gourmet meals and everything in between.

  1. Getting to Versailles

    • From Paris, visitors can take the RER C that arrives at the Versailles Rive Gauche station. SNCF trains arrive at Versailles via the Chantiers station from Paris Montparnasse and Rive Droite from Paris Saint Lazare. By car, travelers take the exit for the chateau off of the A13 motorway.

    Cost of Entry

    • The "Passport" ticket that includes a tour of the entire grounds costs €25 ($37), and the "Palace" ticket, which is a bit more limited of a tour, costs €20 ($29). There are other levels of tickets depending on what art installments are currently in place.

    Food and Facilities

    • There are restrooms at the entrance to the estate and an audio tour is available in 10 languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, Russian and Italian). There are various gift shops throughout the estate and five gourmet restaurants in the palace and gardens.

    Hours of Operation

    • From April 1 to October 31 (the "high season"), the palace is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. From November 1 to March 31 (the "low season"), Chateau Versailles is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

    Restrictions

    • The estate does not allow baby carriages or strollers with metal frames. It also does not allow flash photography within the individual rooms and suggests that all cell phones are turned off at this time as well.
