Aurora Fe Bautista was born on September 13, 1948, in Manila, Philippines. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1969. She then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Physics at the University of the Philippines Diliman, which she completed in 1972. In 1977, she obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Materials Science from the University of California, Berkeley, United States.
