How to Camp at Edisto Island

Edisto Island is a small barrier island on the south coast of South Carolina. Located an hour south of Charleston, it contains one town, Edisto Beach, which has roughly 2,000 residents. If you choose to camp out here, you can making camping reservations at Edisto Beach State Park, which is located on the island. The area offers a palmetto-lined beach, including the tallest palmetto in the state; an oak forest; and hiking and biking trails.

  1. Camping at Edisto Island

      Make reservations with Edisto Beach State Park before your camping trip. You can make reservations online (see References) or by phone at 866-345-7275. A two-night minimum is required.

      Buy plenty of groceries before you hit the road. Edisto Island features only one supermarket, which may not provide everything you need.

      Choose your camping site. Oceanside sites and sites near the salt marsh feature water and electrical hookups. If you have tents, there is also a walk-in tent area on the marsh side with centralized water and tent pads. If you have an RV, there are numerous sites in the camping area which can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length.

      Set up your camp site. Use waterproof gear in case the weather changes unexpectedly, and engage in safe food storage practices. No more than two tents or one RV and one tent may be present at each campsite.
