A mere 7.4 miles away in Keshena is the Menominee Casino Bingo and Hotel. Menominee has had some reported paranormal occurrences as well, such as three children that run and play in the hotel. When security guards go t quiet them down the children are not there.

A little over 60 miles from Shawano lies Kewaunee, Wisconsin, where the inn is located. This inn was rebuilt in 1912 by William Karsten after a fire. The hotel site actually dates all the way back to 1858. The hotel was certified haunted by Wisconsin Ghost Investigations because of evidence of various paranormal activity, including orbs, ectoplasm, sounds of children running and playing, unexplained odors, apparitions and cold spots.

Just a little more than an hour from Shawano lies Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. The ghost story at this hotel dates back to 1953 when the Shangai Room (now the basement of the hotel) was used for gambling room with a bar. Rumor has it that a female employee was murdered in this room and haunts it to this day.
Because of the cooler temperature in this room, the hotel now stores wines there. Some of the manifestations of the spirit that have occurred include the distinct smell of blood, flickering lights, the room is unnaturally cold, doors open and close by themselves.
The hotel has been renovated and features 157 guest rooms scattered among five stories.
