Prime Beef Festival

The Warren County Prime Beef Festival is an annual fair that gets its name from its beef show and auction. The festival takes place the first Wednesday through Saturday after Labor Day in Monmouth, Illinois, which is in the northeastern part of the state. The fair is held in the city park and begins officially Wednesday evening with a parade and comprises several events including a swine show and car show.
  1. Beef Show

    • The Beef Show is the Prime Beef Festival's main attraction. Attendees walk through and view the steers in the beef show. In 2010, the show introduced a new video auction format. This allows potential buyers to view animals through video footage instead of in person, making it easier on the animals, sellers and buyers.

    Car Show

    • The Prime Beef Festival features an annual car show, which has been going on for 21 consecutive years. Registration and Shining comprise the first part of the day, followed by the awards show. In 2010, the show featured 18 classes of cars from 1950 to present including antiques, street machines, Corvettes, trucks and street rods. As of 2010 the entry fee was $15.

    Parade

    • The Prime Beef Festival begins every year with a parade in Monmouth. This event consists of floats, marching bands, cars, horses, clowns and dancers. The top marching bands receive awards onstage at Monmouth Park.

    Other Attractions

    • The Prime Beef Festival includes a swine show, which awards prizes for the top gilts, or hogs, and barrows, which are castrated pigs, as well as an auction selling live pigs and carcasses. The festival puts on an annual derby car race and demolition derby at the Monmouth Airport across from Monmouth Park, where the festival takes place. Other attractions include food tents, rides, craft shows and raffle drawings.
