The city of Lake Placid sits within the Adirondack Mountains, where visitors can go hiking, birdwatching or rock climbing. Lake Placid, which flows through the Adirondacks, serves as a popular spot for whitewater rafting. The area also features trails for hiking and biking. Lake Placid is home to Whiteface Mountain, a resort that offers skiing, snowboarding and dog-sled races. For visitors interested in swimming or sunbathing, the city has both a public beach and Mirror Lake, which offers boating and fishing. The city has 13 golf courses, some with professional-level courses. Lake Placid is also home to a museum dedicated to the two Winter Olympic Games held in in the city in 1932 and 1980.
Located in New York's Finger Lakes region, the city of Rochester is known for the George Eastman House, a National Historic Landmark, where George Eastman, the founder of the Kodak film company, lived. The historic home includes a museum dedicated to the arts of film and photography, which features exhibits of cameras used during different periods of history. Rochester is also home to the Susan B. Anthony House, another National Historic Landmark. Anthony (1820-1906) was a famous champion of women's right to vote. Rochester's local theaters feature musicals, dramatic and comedic plays and improv comedy performances. For visitors with children, Rochester offers a laser tag arena, a children's museum and a hockey arena.
Buffalo sits about half an hour from Niagara Falls.
