How to Have Fun in Dubai

Dubai, one of the emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is located on the Eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. With a culture deeply embedded in Islam, Dubai provides a rich experience for its visitors. Magnificent mosques and friendly people abound in this subtropical location. While Arabic is the national language, English is spoken as the common language amongst locals and expatriates who call Dubai home.

      Visit the Jumeirah Mosque at sundown, for a spectacular view of the building as it is basked in light. You may also visit in the morning if you want a tour of the building. Tours begin at 10 am every Sunday through Thursday.

      Spend a day at one of Dubai's beautiful parks. There are a wide range of parks to choose from including those with beaches and others with grassy areas. Mamzar Park covers 106 hectares and boasts features including: a sheltered beach and lagoon, scenic train, children's play area, music, swimming pool and barbecue areas. There is an entry fee and Wednesdays are open to women and children only.

      Visit the botanic gardens located in Creekside Park. Here you will be able to see more than 280 different plant species. There is an entry fee, but the scenery is well worth the cost.

      Shop in one of Dubai's many modern and malls, which are more like self-contained cities. You will find a variety of upscale retailers and you may be surprised by some of the activities you can enjoy while shopping. Specifically, the Mall of the Emirates offers indoor skiing at Ski Dubai. Wafi City offers an indoor roller-blade rink as well as other great attractions for kids.

      Spend time at one of the many Souks in Dubai. Souks are marketplaces where different items are traded including: food, spices, gold and silk.

      Stroll along the banks of The Creek. The Creek is an inlet that cuts through the center of Dubai. There are markets and open-restaurants lining the banks of The Creek. This is also a great location to view the Dubai skyline.

      Visit the Dubai Museum, which is located in the Al Fahidi Fort. The fort was built in 1787 and renovated in 1970. The museum, housed within the fort, boasts artifacts dating back 3000 years and displays dioramas with life-sized figures.
