The Cockpit has been a popular student night spot since 1994. The venue was once a pub called The Cock of the North. Built under a series of arches, the club has an intimate, if slightly dingy, feel. The Cockpit hosts a different night each day of the week. Tuesdays are emo nights. Fridays are electro and retro indie. The club is also a popular live music venue. The Libertines, The White Stripes, Amy Winehouse, Coldplay, The Killers, and The Hives have all played there.
