Castles That Are Historical Landmarks

Castles around the world are credited with historical significance, as they were typically spots of great political movements and war discussions throughout the centuries. In the UK, there are three incredibly famous castles, Edinburgh Castle, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, each of which have a spot in the historical landscape of their nation.
  1. Windsor Castle

    • Windsor Castle is in the city of Windsor, just outside of London. The castle has been a spot of historical significance for hundreds of years, as both a fortress and royal residence. It is also the resting place of King Henry VIII, his third wife Jane Seymour and Queen Victoria.

    Edinburgh Castle

    • Edinburgh Castle is located in Scotland, and it is the capital of the country. Edinburgh Castle was both a royal residence and fortress, as its spot at the top of a rocky cliff provided those within it plenty of protection. Mary, Queen of Scots, is one of the castle's more famous residents.

    Buckingham Palace

    • Buckingham Palace in London is the current main residence of Queen Elizabeth II, and guests can tour the palace in the summer months. Queen Victoria was the first royal monarch to make the castle her main home, and many of the furnishings were of her design.
