Edinburgh Castle is located in Scotland, and it is the capital of the country. Edinburgh Castle was both a royal residence and fortress, as its spot at the top of a rocky cliff provided those within it plenty of protection. Mary, Queen of Scots, is one of the castle's more famous residents.
Buckingham Palace in London is the current main residence of Queen Elizabeth II, and guests can tour the palace in the summer months. Queen Victoria was the first royal monarch to make the castle her main home, and many of the furnishings were of her design.
