Camping Around Wells, Nevada

Wells, Nevada, is named for the natural wells in the area that once provided water for Shoshone Indians, fur trappers and California-bound wagon trains. Set between the Humboldt and Ruby mountain ranges and surrounded by grazing land, the city is now a hub for regional ranchers, as well as a base for visitors to the area's lakes and forests. Area campgrounds provide sites for tents, trailers and RVs, with a range of amenities.
  1. Mountain Shadows RV Park

    • Mountain Shadows RV Park is less than 1 mile from downtown Wells. The family oriented campground offers full hookups, shaded pull-through sites, cable TV and wireless Internet. Amenities include laundry facilities, restrooms with showers and a central dump station. Leashed pets are welcome. The park's location near Interstate 80 provides convenient access to South Fork and Wild Horse Reservoir state recreation areas, which have facilities for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and picnicking.

    Angel Lake RV Park

    • Angel Lake RV Park, 1 mile southwest of downtown Wells, offers pull-through sites with full hookups, cable TV and wireless Internet. The park also features a central dump station, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities and picnic areas. Snack items are available on site, and full grocery and hardware stores are within walking distance. Angel Lake, in the East Humboldt mountain range, is 12 miles southwest of the park.

    Angel Creek Campground

    • Angel Creek Campground, in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, is 9 miles southwest of Wells. The campground, located on the foothills of the East Humboldt range, is a good option for tent camping. Sites are surrounded by mature aspens that provide shade and fall color, and vault toilets, trash bins and water spigots are centrally located. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring and grill. Firewood is available for purchase. The campground has two RV sites, but no hookups.

    Angel Lake Campground

    • Angel Lake Campground, 12 miles southwest of Wells, is another good site for tent campers. Located directly on Angel Lake at an altitude of 8,400 feet, the campground sits at the foot of rugged peaks surrounded by dwarf aspens. A variety of wildlife can be seen in the area, including bighorn sheep, mountain goats and deer. Campsites feature lake views, picnic tables, fire rings and grills, as well as access to vault toilets, drinking water and trash bins. A day-use picnic area is next to the lake. The campground has one RV site, but no hookups.
