Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy one of 10 campgrounds located within a 20-mile radius of Chambersburg, including KOA in Williamsport and the Twin Bridge Meadow campground just 3 miles out of town, both with fishing, hiking, swimming and other activities nearby. Canoeing waters ranging from Class I to IV run near Chambersburg, and the area also boasts two different lakes available for fishing or boating. The city contains a public golf course and a country club course, and the Ski Liberty resort, with 16 ski runs, sits less than 25 miles away.

The entire county played a role in the Underground Railroad before and during the Civil War, and Chambersburg is no exception.
