Fort Belvoir boasts four swimming pools -- three are outdoors and one is indoors. Each of the swimming pools has different operating hours, so check its website (www.belvoirmwr.com/Facilities/Pools/) before visiting. Children younger than 16 must pass a swimming test before being allowed in the pool, and children with floatation devices must be within arms' reach of an adult at all times. The Officers' Club pool is only open to members of the club, who can be any military officer or Department of Defense civilian of GS-7 or NF-3 rank or higher.
The National Field Archery Association and the Virginia Bowhunters Association ranks Fort Belvoir's archery facilities as four star. Shooting classes are offered for both youths and adults. Those wishing to participate in deer and turkey hunting must complete a state hunting safety course, a physical evaluation and an archery proficiency test. Standard Virginia hunting licenses are required. The hours of the Archery/Hunting Check Station vary depending on the season and current activities, so call 703-805-3688 before visiting.
Fort Belvoir's bowling facilities offer a place to host your child's birthday party, a newly renovated pro shop and electronic bumpers. At each lane, a party can specify which bowler needs bumpers and they will automatically raise when that player's turn arrives and lower when it's over. This way, parents and small children can bowl on the same lane. On Friday and Saturday nights, the bowling center is open until midnight with Cosmic Bowling, a laser and music party the whole family can enjoy. The Bowling Center is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Call 703-805-2991 for more information.
Fort Belvoir's community center is the hub of its leisure activities. Visitors can get information about sights to see, tickets for events or just hang out and shoot a game of pool or go to the skate park. The community center also offers classes such as guitar, piano, drums and yoga. The center is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays; its phone number is 703-805-3714.
