The Campgrounds of the Blackfeet Indians

The Blackfeet Indians, now located mostly in Montana, are thought to have been given their name by European settlers for their characteristic black moccasins. They have a 1.5 million-acre reservation in northwest Montana, along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, and run a handful of campgrounds there. Whether you love fishing, want to become better acquainted with Blackfeet culture or simply need a place to rest before pushing on into Glacier National Park or up to Canada, the Blackfeet Reservation has plenty of sites to accommodate you.
  1. Chewing Blackbones Campground and RV Park

    • This campground, an RV park, is located on Highway 89, on the east shore of Lower St. Mary's Lake. Six miles north of the St. Mary's entrance to Glacier National Park and 12 miles south of the Canadian border, Chewing Blackbones makes for a convenient rest stop with plenty of fishing, boating and swimming tours to make it a worthwhile visit. A store, laundromat and food services are located on the premises, and full hookups and electricity are available for visitors.

Sleeping Wolf RV Park and Campground

    • Located within a day's drive of the Rocky Mountain Front as well as Glacier and Waterton Park, Sleeping Wolf is an ideal stop for RVs towing a car or trucks pulling a fifth-wheeler. The site has an unobstructed view of the Rockies, including Chief Mountain, and is a great spot for barbecuing, bird watching, picnicking, stream fishing or short nature walks. The site provides fire pits, laundry services, pay phones, public restrooms, an RV dump station, RV hookups, showers and running water.

If you are looking for a quiet getaway or if you love fishing, Duck Lake might be your best bet.

    Lodgepole Tipi Village

    • If you want to escape the RVs, camp simply and be able to hear the crickets and coyotes at night, consider the Lodgepole Tipi Village, located two miles west of Browning.
