Carmel, California is an upscale community which features European-style architecture near the white sands of the Pacific Ocean. Your campsite sits in the midst of nature, with oceanside cliffs, wooded trails and the sounds of nature singing you to sleep.
  1. Veteran's Memorial Park

    • The City of Monterey Veteran's Memorial Park is approximately five miles away from Carmel, California. The 50-acre park has 40 campsites, each with a table and a fire pit for cooking and campfires. Thirty of these sites accommodate camper trailers. Park rules state that only two 21-foot-long vehicles are allowed at each campsite, and your camping party is limited to eight people per campsite. If your vehicle or trailer is longer than 21 feet, camp officials will refer you to a different parking area. The campground has restrooms, showers and faucets for gathering water. On-site activities include hiking, picnicking and basketball. The 81-acre Huckleberry Hill Nature Preserve is adjacent to the park, connected by a network of walking trails. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one and a half miles away from the park in downtown Monterey.

    • Saddle Mountain RV Park and Campground offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean on its mountain cliffs. From this view, you may get a glimpse of whales emerging from the ocean waters. The campground features a heated outdoor swimming pool, a family area, basketball, arcade games, horseshoes, a playground, hiking trails and a patio area. RV hookups have electricity, cable television, broadband Internet and a sewer system. The tent area lets you sleep under the stars. The campground allows pets but you must leash them when outside your campsite. Saddle Mountain offers group rates. A few miles away, Carmel boasts fine-dining establishments featuring international, regional and local cuisines. The Grill on Ocean Avenue serves Asian-inspired menu items.

    Laguna Seca Recreation Area

    • Monterey County Parks' Laguna Seca Recreation Area is about 15 miles away from Carmel, on the hillsides of Salinas, and offers RV and tent camping. The campground features views of the Salinas Valley. The park is a few miles away from the Monterey Peninsula, Big Sur and the Carmel Valley. RV camping areas have water, electricity and dump stations. The non-RV camp area accommodates tents, pickup-truck campers and cars. Within walking distance of the tent areas, you have bathrooms and hot showers. The Chaparral group building is available to groups reserving 10 or more campsites. The 100-person-capacity building has heat and air, a kitchen area, a television with a VCR and projection screen, a barbecue pit and a picnic area. The park has a pay telephone, a playground, picnic areas, and a rifle and pistol range.
