Celebrate Halloween every weekend during October at Legoland California (california.legoland.com) in Carlsbad. They offer a Brick-or-Treat Trail where children 12 and younger can trick-or-treat with a Legoland souvenir bag at various Lego-themed stations. Discover Halloween-themed Lego creations throughout the park. Brick-or-Treat Party Nights are only on Saturdays during October, but include other entertainment, such as live music. Several park areas are open during the evening, such as Land of Adventure. Other activities include the Haunted Hideaways and a "Howler After Hour" contest.
Trick-or-treating through Carlsbad Village (experiencecarlsbadvillage.com) is a memorable family activity for Halloween. Each year, the village hosts a Halloween Festival with a pumpkin patch, bobbing for apples, an autumn scavenger hunt and a pumpkin decorating contest. Buy pumpkin-inspired food and fresh produce at the market. The festival is traditionally held in the Roosevelt Street parking lot in the village between 5 and 8 p.m. on Halloween night.
The Children's Discovery Museum (no website; 300 Carlsbad Village Drive #103, Carlsbad; 760-720-0737) in Carlsbad offers a not-too-scary Halloween celebration. This is a two-day event ending on Halloween night. They offer a Witch's Marketplace, pumpkins in the Toddlers Corner, Pirates in the Fishin' Boat, and spooky sounds in World of Sound. There are two shows: Mad Scientist Experiment and Creepy Crawler Spiders. Both days have games and prizes. On Halloween, there is a Little Ghoul & Goblins Party for ages newborn to 3 years old. There is also a costume parade and contest, face painting and storytelling.
Visiting "Uncle Jeepers, Cousin and the Maestro" at the Carlsbad House of Horrors is a possible Halloween family activity. The event is free and usually begins at 7 p.m. on Halloween night. It is strongly recommended that children younger than 7 years of age do not attend, because the House is intended to be very scary. A local Realtor donates her garage and back yard for this event, located at 3384 Corte Panorama in Carlsbad.
