Late Night Restaurants in East Bay, San Fransisco, California

Across the water from downtown San Francisco, the communities that make up the East Bay area are home to dozens of bars, nightclubs and music venues. The area also plays host to several late-night eating options, allowing people to take in a show or enjoy a few drinks without having to worry about going hungry.

  1. DAIMO Chinese Restaurant

    • Situated within the Pacific East Shopping Mall in Richmond, DAIMO offers authentic Chinese food until 3 a.m., seven nights a week.

Voted the Best Chinese Restaurant by readers of the East Bay Express for three years in a row, DAIMO offers a varied set menu, in addition to a monthly special. Items include Chinese favorites such as hot pot, stir fried noodle dishes, noodle soup and congee. Additionally, the restaurant offers Chinese barbecue dishes, live seafood and specialities such as shark's fin and abalone.

    Rudy's Can't Fail

    • A traditional All-American diner located on the corner of Park and Hollis in Emeryville, Rudy's Can't Fail serves up no-nonsense fare until 1 a.m. seven days a week.

Fixtures on the evening menu include nachos, sweet potato fries, a range of salad and burgers, club sandwiches and fish dishes. In addition to vegetarian options, Rudy's also offers a handful of vegan choices, including a vegan burger, salad and tacos. For late-comers, the venue also runs a $1 beer promotion every night of the week.

    Fonda

    • Fonda offers contemporary Hispanic cuisine in the heart of Albany. As well as an informal tapas menu, guests can also choose from a set dinner menu with Iberian and Mexican specialties such as crab ceviche with avocado, Serrano ham, Yucatan-spiced chicken, duck tacos and mushroom quesadillas.

The kitchen is open until 12.30 each night except Sunday when the restaurant is closed, though only parties of six or more people can reserve a table in advance.

Fonda is run by East Bay restaurateurs Haig Krikorian and Cindy Lalime, graduates of the California Culinary Academy and owners of four other venues this side of the bay.

    Top Dog

    • The Top Dog chain of restaurants has been serving traditional American food in the East Bay area since 1966. While it now operates four separate locations around Berkeley and Oakland, only the Southside location stays open late.

Situated on Durant Avenue in the center of Berkeley, the venue serves up nostalgic fare until 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The menu boasts a range of takes on the classic hot dog, including German, Polish, Italian and Louisiana-style sausages. Additionally, guests may also choose from "bird dogs" -- sausages made from chicken -- as well as pork and vegetarian options.
