Lake Morey, Vermont, offers many attractions for the outdoor enthusiast. Visitors enjoy it in warm seasons as a sailing, hiking and kayaking destination. In winter months, the frozen lake attracts ice skaters--Lake Morey is purported to have the longest ice-skating trail in the United States. Many tourists rent private homes along the lake for vacation stays. If you're considering visiting Lake Morey, but would prefer more traditional lodging, there are several options to choose from.
The Lake Morey Resort is located directly on the lake. The resort boasts several amenities including a spa, an indoor and outdoor pool, and children's activities. For sports enthusiasts there is a tennis court, basketball court and an 18-hole championship golf course. The resort has 130 guest rooms, 16 conference rooms and a full-service catering and conference center for group events. Summer rates for 2011 start at $121 per night with breakfast and dinner included. Winter rates start at $75 per night. Children under the age of 2 are free, and children 17 and under are charged a reduced rate. A group of private lake houses and cottages adjacent to the resort are also available.
The Silver Maple Lodge and Cottages is a family-owned and operated bed and breakfast, which is about one and a half miles from Lake Morey. It claims to be one of the oldest continuously running inns in Vermont (in operation since 1920) and is housed in an 18th-century farmhouse. The main lodge has nine rooms to choose from and there are seven adjacent cottages. All cottages have refrigerators and some also have kitchenettes and fireplaces. Well-behaved pets are welcome in the cottages. A continental breakfast is served daily. Double occupancy room rates for 2011 start at $86 for the lodge and $96 for the cottages.
The Fairlee Motel and Drive-in Theater is located about three miles from Lake Morey. It boasts a drive-in theater that is open from mid-April through Columbus Day weekend. The drive-in schedule is available online and theater is open on weekends in the spring and every night in the summer months. There is also a playground on the premises for children. The motel has 12 rooms, which are equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, flat-screen television and in-wall audio speakers. Each room also has a picture window that faces the drive-in screen, which in combination with the speakers enables you enjoy the drive-in movie from the comfort of your room.
The Hulbert Outdoor Center caters to campers and large groups. The center is located directly on Lake Morey. Through the not-for-profit Aloha Foundation, the center offers team-building exercises and group meeting spaces that can accommodate groups as small as 10 people and as large as 200 people. Accommodations consist of winterized cabins, with living rooms, separate bedrooms and beds that can be converted to bunk style if necessary. Open-air cabins with no heat or electricity are also available to accommodate large groups of up to 150 people. The facilities also include canoeing, hiking, tennis and basketball courts. There are several dining options on the grounds of the center.
