Lake Carmi is the fourth largest natural lake entirely within Vermont. It is the site of a state park of the same name and is home to wetland forests and the third largest peat bog in Vermont. Other than two cabins and campsites in the state park, there are no accommodation options located at Lake Carmi. Several hotels, however, are located within a short drive of Lake Carmi in the nearby towns of Swanton and St. Albans.
Originally a Native American settlement, the town of Swanton is located near the shores of Lake Champlain and the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge. Only a half hour west of Lake Carmi is the family-run Swanton Motel. The AAA, 2-diamond property features spacious ground-floor rooms and an outdoor pool and patio. St. Albans is located on the shores of Lake Champlain, where guests can enjoy boating or relaxing on the lakefront. The annual Vermont Maple Festival honoring maple syrup is also held in the town.

Located near Highgate Springs, the Tyler Place Family Resort is just over 30 minutes from the north shores of Lake Carmi. Established in 1933, the all-inclusive resort is located on 165 acres of meadows, woods and gardens. Guests at the resort have access to six playgrounds, indoor and outdoor pools and field house gym, just to name a few of the property's amenities. Guests can also enjoy boating on the adjacent lake or spend time in the resort's archery range, tennis courts or arts and crafts studio.
