Smith Mountain Lake is located in southwestern Virginia amidst the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The lake and surrounding area has excellent fishing, water sports and family recreation. Smith Mountain Lake is a 20,600-acre lake with 500 miles of shoreline. The lake was formed between 1963 and 1966 with the damming of the Blackwater and Roanoke Rivers. Retail stores, restaurants, and marinas are all conveniently located close to the lake. Smith Mountain Lake State Park is situated on the northern side of the lake. The 37-acre park offers scenic hiking, camping, picnicking and other family activities. There are several lodging options in the Smith Mountain Lake area, some appropriate for families and others designed as romantic getaways.
Smith Mountain Dock & Lodge is located on Locus Lane between markers R6 and R8 on the south side of Smith Mountain Lake. The facility includes a marina, restaurant and general store in addition to a lodge with several rooms. There is three night minimum on rooms at the lodge. Smith Mountain Dock & Lodge offers boat rentals and storage and is open seasonally between April and October.
