With 500 miles of coastline and an expansion of 40 miles, Smith Lake is a must-see destination for tourists. If you're thinking of visiting, numerous accommodation options are available in the area, from camping inside the Smith Lake State Park to a lakeside hotel.

    • The Westlake Waterfront Inn is nestled on the edge of Smith Lake. Each of its 26 waterfront guest rooms has free wireless Internet, cable television, microwave, mini-refrigerator and coffee-making facilities. The hotel is only a 10-minute drive from all local amenities, including shops, restaurants and family entertainment. As of 2010, rates start at $85 per night from Sunday through Wednesday. If you're thinking of bringing your boat or jet ski, you can leave it in the safety of the Westlake's docking area, right outside the hotel. Alternatively, you can hire a pontoon, runabout or jet ski directly from the hotel.

    Cabin Rental

    • If you prefer a cabin vacation, many different options are available, with prices dependent on the time of year and the length of the stay. Peak season runs March 1 to December 5 and off-peak season runs December 6 to the last day of February. Inside the Smith Mountain Lake State Park, you can rent a fully stocked cabin with living area, kitchen and sleeping quarters. Cabin #1 has two bedrooms, which sleep up to six people, a wood stove, central heating and fully stocked kitchen for as little as $335 per week (as of 2010). Alternatively, you can rent a cabin or condo with a private company such as Smith Mountain Lake Rentals, which offers lakeside accommodations. For example, as of 2010, prices start at $695 per week in the Virginia Cottage with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, fenced yard and all modern conveniences.

    Camping

    • The state park camping sites, open all year, are another accommodation option for visitors. Sites do not allow hook-ups or vans and only one tent (sleeping up to six people) is allowed per site. Amenities include campfire facilities with fire pit, hot-water showers, flushing toilets, picnic areas and tent pad. As of 2010, rates start at $20 per night. Alternatively, other campsites such as Eagle Roost, located outside the state park, offer daily rates starting at $17 for tents and $22 for RVs with water and electricity included. Other amenities include bath houses with hot-water showers, canoe and paddleboat rentals, boat launching ramp, recreation area and fishing on site.
