Campgrounds on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia

Smith Mountain Lake is Virginia's second largest lake, and is famous for its freshwater fishing--several freshwater bass tournaments have been held there. Aside from fishing and boating, RVers come to Smith Mountain Lake for hiking, bicycling and even geocaching: there are some 200 geocaches hidden around the lake. RV camping options range from a no-frills state park to seasonal spots and campgrounds attached to marinas.
  1. Smith Mountain Lake State Park‎

    • Smith Mountain Lake State Parks serves day use visitors, RV campers and tent campers. There are 24 sites for RVers, five with pull-throughs; maximum site length is 50 feet. Five are equipped with 20- and 30-amp electrical service, and the overnight camping price includes boat launch. The sites are gravel. RV travelers can fish, boat and enjoy the hiking trails, as well as renting canoes and paddle boats.

    Eagle's Roost Campground

    • Eagle's Roost Campground and Marina is on the east side of Smith Mountain Lake. The RV park offers 40 acres of wooded landscape close to the water's edge. The sites and interior roads are gravel, and there is a boat launch on-site. There are both partial and full-hookup sites, with a separate dump station, and spaces for tent campers also. The campground has a store, laundromat, basketball and volleyball courts, and a shower block. A private beach allows for swimming.

    Blue Ridge Campground and Marina

    • Blue Ridge RV Campground and Marina is a seasonal campground open from April through October, allowing for long-term enjoyment of fishing and recreation. The spaces are partial hookups, with a separate dump station. The setting is rural, with mature deciduous trees and the campground-marina is right by the water. There is a store on-site, as well as a laundromat.

    Smith Mountain Campground

    • Smith Mountain Campground is a rustic campground with both tent and RV spaces, with a view of Smith Mountain. It is located in Penhook, with public boat access to Smith Mountain Lake two miles away. The RV spaces have full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, and a separate bath house. Sites include a picnic table and fire pit Children are accommodated with a playground, volleyball and a horseshoe pit. There are also trails on site and a pond for fishing.
