Lake Coeur d'Alene Camping Resort sits on Wolf Lodge Bay, which is frequented by overwintering bald eagles in December and January. RV and tent campers enjoy full access to the resort's amenities, which include a swimming pool, hot tubs, game room and playgrounds. The campground provides hot showers, flush toilets and on site laundry for camping convenience as well as a store where you can pick up souvenirs and snacks. Wolf Lodge Campground on the east edge of town has creekside camping on grassy tent or RV sites with mature shade trees. Rent a canoe and paddle the creek, enjoy a campfire at your site or upload vacation selfies using the park's free wireless Internet.
The Coeur d'Alene Scenic Byway runs 35 miles along the lake's eastern shore. Beauty Creek Campground sits back 1/2 mile from the lake along Beauty Creek, tucked in a narrow valley with wooded hillsides. The campground itself is flat and sparsely wooded, with campsites close together. The upper loop of Bell Bay campground overlooks the lake from a point atop a hill, but only a few sites in the lower loop provide a lake view. A short, steep trail accesses docks where you can tie a boat. Both campgrounds have wheelchair-accessible vault toilets, water, fire rings, grills and picnic tables.
In addition to the two campgrounds situated along the scenic byway, eight more national forest campgrounds lie within 70 miles of Coeur d'Alene. If your RV is more than 30 feet long, head to the Bumblebee, Kit Price or Coeur d'Alene River campgrounds, where oversize and pull-through spaces are available, with disabled-accessible sites and vault restrooms. Smaller campgrounds such as Mokins Bay Campground on Hayden Lake are suited for tents and small trailers but have no wheelchair access to the vault toilets. All national forest campgrounds have grills, picnic tables, fire rings and potable water and are open from mid-May through late September.
Two state parks within 20 miles provide camping with full hookups. Farragut State Park lies 20 miles north of the city on the southern shore of Lake Pend Oreille. In addition to standard sites and sites with hookups, six equestrian sites have corral access and ample room to park your horse trailer and stage your ride. Heyburn State Park on the southern shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene has three campgrounds that include a tent-only area with primitive facilities or two campgrounds with hookups, separate tent areas and showers.
