Despite Florida's reputation for being a magnet for retirees, Orlando has a relatively high percentage of college students and young people. In fact, 31 percent of the people in Orlando are between the ages of 18 and 34, causing businesses to cater to a younger crowd overall. The clubs in the area are no exception, with many of them allowing patrons 18 and over.
The Independent Bar located in downtown Orlando offers a counter-culture alternative to the more traditional electronica and R&B you'll find at some other clubs. People under the age of 21 typically pay a cover of $3 to $6 to get in, while over 21s get in free before midnight or 1 a.m. The bar's two stages play host to various theme nights, such as '80s and '90s alternative music nights, college alternative nights and industrial/house night.
Roxy nightclub features a mix of club music in its upstairs and downstairs dance halls. The club features a variety of theme nights, including rock night on Mondays, electronica and dubstep on Tuesdays, and its well-known Latin night on Wednesday. Latin night features Reggaeton, traditional Latin music and ladies night drink specials. Guests who are 18 to 21 typically pay a higher cover than those over 21. The club offers VIP accommodations that can be reserved ahead of time.
Pulse nightclub is a well-known gay nightclub in central Orlando. The club's three main rooms include a lounge with a VIP tables, an all-black "Adonis" room and the "Jewel Box," featuring bright flashing lights and a VIP stage. The club welcomes people 18 and over and charges slightly higher prices for 18-20 year olds. Theme nights include the club's college night, Dorm Wednesdays, a drag show on Friday nights and house music on Saturday nights.
What used to be the Tabu nightclub reopened under a new name in 2011, now called The Beacham. It's now a large club adjoined to the popular music venue, the Social. When it comes to admitting people 18 and over, the Beacham has particular rules for certain nights of the week. Many nights, such as the club's reggaeton and Latin night, Barrio Sundays, allows women 18 and over, while men must be 21 and over. If you're not sure the rules for that particular night, call the club before you go. Live music at The Social are also on a night-by-night basis.
