Pigeon Cove is Rockport Massachusetts’ northern village consisting of late 19th- and 20th-century buildings. It is one of the most popular areas along the Atlantic coast. Pigeon cove became an active fishing base after the Revolutionary War and in the late 19th century a granite quarrying industry emerged.
Less than one mile from Pigeon Cove sits the Yankee Clipper Inn. Eight guest rooms overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Cable television and private bathrooms are provided in each room. Wireless Internet is available in the main area of the inn. According to the Inn’s website, famous people such as John F. Kennedy Jr., Paul Newman and John Lennon have been guests. Some of the awards presented to the inn have been from Arrington’s Bed and Breakfast Journal for “The best Inn on the Eastern Seaboard” and “One of the best Inns in the country” as well as being named the “Best Nearby Escape” by Boston Magazine.
Within a mile of Pigeon Cove is the historic grand hotel, Emerson Inn by the Sea. The Historic Hotels of America website tells the interesting history of the Inn, which includes its three name changes and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson’s inspiring visits. Thirty-six rooms have been renovated over a seven-year period and now include private baths, spa tubs, private enclosed balconies, televisions and phones. The inn also has two vacation rental cottages nearby to accommodate larger gatherings.
The Eagle House Motel is located just over one mile from Pigeon Cove and is a short walk to a sandy beach, shops, restaurants, art galleries and a train that can take you to Salem and Boston. According to the Discover Our Town website, the motel offers 15 rooms with air conditioning, cable television, wireless Internet access, a refrigerator, telephone and an outside deck.
The Rockport Inn and Suites is the largest hotel in Rockport, Massachusetts according to its website and it’s only a two and a half-mile drive from Pigeon Cove. Guests can enjoy the indoor pool and spa, tennis courts, fitness room, flat-screen televisions and free deluxe continental breakfast. Two-room suites, executive suites, a king sofa room and traditional rooms are available and include hair dryers, coffeemakers, microwave and refrigerators. The hotel's website states that the Rockport Inn and Suites is the closest lodging facility to a major branded hotel in the Rockport area.
