According to its website, Delta Airlines is the world's largest airline, transporting nearly 117 million passengers a year to 368 destinations in 66 countries. Alliances with other airlines, including Alaska Air, covers 16,000 daily flights to 567 destinations in 112 countries. Rewards can also be earned and used on either Delta or Alaska flights.
Gather the travel information that the customer agent will need. This includes your Delta SkyMiles number and the number of points you have. If you want to travel to Alaska Airlines international destinations, have your passport handy; you'll be asked for the passport number and expiration date. Get your credit card ready as well to pay for any charges and fees.
Check to ensure that Alaska Air flies to and from the locations you need. The quickest way to check this is to go to their website (see Resources) and enter the dates and cities of travel using their online form. You can also find a route map by clicking the "Destinations" menu and choosing "Route Map."
Phone Delta SkyMiles at (800) 323-2323. When prompted, say "Representative" and then enter your SkyMiles number. Say any additional entries as needed.
Tell the representative that you want to fly on Alaska Airlines. Give her any information she requests, including dates of travel, departure and destination points, SkyMiles number and passport information. You'll need to pay a $20 per ticket charge for making reservations over the phone as well as any taxes and fees.
Receive a receipt in your email. Check it to be sure that your travel details are correct.
