While some cities and states in America have reciprocity agreements with Canada that allow their citizens to travel easily between the US and Canada, this doesn't apply to foreign visitors. Observing transport regulations and showing the proper documentation will ease your trip over the Canadian-American border. If you aren't allowed into one of the countries for whatever reason, you will not be able to cross the border.
Show the proper identification. You will have to have a passport if you want to enter into Canada or the United States.
Show a travel visa, if required. Some countries have agreements with Canada and the United States that allow for visiting without a visa. If you are not a citizen of one of these countries, you will have to show your travel visa to cross the border.
Answer the questions the border guard asks you. You may have to explain the purpose of your trip and how long you intend to stay in the country you're visiting. You may also have to show proof that you have enough money to purchase return airfare or show a copy of your itinerary. The guards will also ask you questions to ensure you have no contraband.
Drive across the border.
