Texas is the second largest state in America and is bordered by four states, Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico. With an annual average temperature being warmer than 55 degrees, it is a prime destination for outdoor recreation and activities. There are hundreds of annual fairs and festivals that range from the Dallas Psychic Fair to the Brownsville Latin Jazz Festival.

  1. Annual Rice Festival

    • The Lions Club of Bay City has hosted the Annual Rice Festival for more than 65 years. During the festival, a Rice Festival Queen is crowned. As one of the premier events in Matagorda County, this is a celebration of the history and heritage revolving around the rice harvest. The parade travels around the Matagorda County Courthouse Square, and entertainment includes a Friday night lights football game and carnival with over 20 rides, games and food booths.

    Gregg County Fair

    • The Annual Longview Jaycees Gregg County Fair and Exposition will take place over a week that spans from a Monday evening until the following Saturday night. Dr. Pepper is the official soft drink of the fair and if you bring six empty Dr. Pepper, your admission is free. The Century 21 Carnival includes rides like the Big Wheel, games and a kiddie land with rides for smaller children. In addition to the on-site petting zoo, free nightly entertainment like musical performances and a magic show will be available. Carnival-style food such as corn dogs and pizza will be served.

    Washington County Fair

    • Billed as the first fair in Texas, the Washington County Fair was established in 1868. This annual event is held is September and consists of concerts, rodeos and livestock showcases. Musical guests have included Kristen Kelly and the Modern Day Drifters and restless Heart. This week-long event includes rodeos like the Bull Riding Extravaganza with Mutton Bustin' Contest. The Washington County Fair also has contests like the barbecue contest and horseshoe tournament.
