First Monday Trade Days

• First Monday Trade Days is located in Canton, Texas, and started more than 150 years ago. It is the world's largest outdoor trade event. Vendors come from all over the United States once a month; the show runs every Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of each month. Vendors here sell everything from crafts to home décor, antiques and collectibles, clothing, jewelry and more. First Monday is regularly selected as the home for many smaller Bluegrass Festivals, concerts and other performance. There are more than 100 acres of shopping areas and a pet park, where you can purchase almost any kind of pet.

Traders Village Houston

• Traders Village is a huge flea market that offers shopping, arts and crafts, festivals and concerts. It has three locations in Texas including Houston, Grand Prairie and San Antonio (opening in 2010). Traders Village Grand Prairie has been in operation since 1973; the location in Houston has been open since 1989. Traders Village is open to the public every weekend and, in addition to featured entertainment and wares for sale, the festival also serves up some tasty state fair-style foods. As of 2010, the combined total of shoppers for the Houston and Grand Prairie markets was approximately 5,000,000.

State Fair of Texas

• The State Fair of Texas began in 1886 and is the largest state fair in the United States. It is located just 2 miles east of downtown Dallas and spans approximately 280 acres. The state fair runs every year, usually starting the last week in September, running daily for three weeks. At the end of every day there is a light show and parade. The state fair has many arts and crafts buildings, where you can buy or simply browse through locally produced crafts. Fried foods are popular at this state fair; some unusual offerings include fried pineapple ice cream, fried bacon, fried s'mores, fried butter and the famous Fletcher's corn dogs.
