The Festival of the Hills is an annual event scheduled close to the Fourth of July. This festival takes place at Borden Park, on the southeast corner of Hamlin and John R Road, a few miles south of the City of Rochester Hills municipal complex. The festival typically starts in the early evening. Alcoholic beverages, pets, and open fires are not permitted. Only gas or propane barbecues are allowed.
Activities are provided for all ages, from live music concerts to activities for the children. The event culminates in Michigan's second largest fireworks show after dark.

This festival shows attendees how people lived in Michigan in the past. The festival celebrates life in Michigan going back as far as the Civil War. The festival promotes artisans, has food booths, and even has an antique car show. Live music, quilting demonstrations, sheep shearing and woodworking are but a few of the activities at the festival. Many of the demonstrations appeal to children.

The Village of Rochester Hills is a shopping mall that hosts a Fine Arts Fair semi-annually in cooperation with the Creative Arts Council, an organization of local artists. The Fine Arts Fair is a juried event and awards are given to participating artists. The fair is an open air event, and people can view the artwork and buy it as well. Besides viewing artwork, entertainment for children is provided as well as live music and dancing.

The cities of Rochester Hills, Rochester, and Oakland Township collaborate on a holiday parade in downtown Rochester. As of August 2010, this is the largest parade in Michigan and has been held for the past 50 years. Marching bands, fire trucks, floats, horses and clubs and organizations go down Rochester Road. The event is taped and shown on local cable TV channels. The parade's theme celebrates the holidays.
