Tea room restaurants are an alternative to traditional eateries and offer a great place to go with friends and family. They differ from coffee houses in that they often sell sandwiches, salads and snacks along with tea and pastries. The St. Louis area has many tea rooms and tea salons in the city proper, to the north, east, south and west.
The main tea room in St. Louis is The London Tea Room. In addition to offering teas, sweets and snacks, the London Tea Room also offers events such as tea sampling. In a downtown location, it is convenient to other tourist areas such as the Arch. There are many coffee houses in St. Louis that also offer tea, but the only other dedicated tea room in St. Louis recently closed.

To the north of St. Louis in Granite City, Ill., is the Garden Gate Tea Room. This tea room hosts private parties as well as high tea, and is located, as its name suggests, in a more garden-like setting. Although it lies north of the city, it is still within the bounds of the outer belt.

To the east of St. Louis lies the Oatman House Tea Room in Collinsville, Ill. This restaurant is unique in that it is situated in a historic home. According to its website, it is also listed in Victorian Homes Magazine as one of the Top Ten Victorian tea rooms in the United States.

In Missouri, just to the south of St. Louis, is the Sisters Tea House and Gift Shop. Located in Fenton, the Sisters Tea House offers high tea, bridal showers, baby showers and girls night out. The establishment also offers wine and cocktails to appeal to a more diverse crowd.

There is a large selection of tea rooms west of St. Louis. They include Tea Room in the Valley in Valley Park, Dream House and Tea Room in Ballwin, Miss Aimee B's Tea Room in St. Charles and Aggie's Closet and Tea Room in O'Fallon.
