Amelia Island is one of the southernmost of a chain of barrier islands known as the Sea Islands. It features 13 miles of beaches, natural wildlife throughout and a number of relaxing resorts. Amelia City and Fernandina Beach are both located on the island, which is also home to a number of chain restaurants.     • Shoney's is a North American corporation that has been operating since 1947. It began as a drive-in restaurant in Charleston, West Virginia, and has grown to spread across 18 states, with over 100 locations. This casual restaurant has one location on Amelia Island. Starters here include onion rings and chicken strips, cooked with all vegetable oil with zero grams of trans fat. Grain-fed ground beef burgers are served in a variety of ways, as well as entree salads and croissant sandwiches. Entrees include a 10-ounce ribeye steak, smothered grilled liver n' onions, southern fried catfish, Sante Fe chicken skillet and wild-caught Pacific salmon. Shoney's also has a separate kid's menu.

    Zaxby's

    • Zaxby's has been around since 1990 and serves primarily chicken meals. The company is located throughout the southeast United States, with one location on Amelia Island. The menu features fried appetizers, which include onion rings, spicy fried mushrooms and fried pickles. Meal deals, which all come with fries and a beverage, include chicken sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches and wings. Wings served at the restaurant come in 10 different sauces in traditional or boneless varieties. Chicken tenders are also available. Restaurant favorites include the chicken finger plate and the wings and things variety plate.

    Applebee's

    • According to its website, Applebee's is the largest casual dining chain in the world. It has locations throughout the United States and many countries worldwide. Founded in 1980, with a change to its current name in 1986, the restaurant features a full bar with happy-hour specials and a menu that adds new items on a regular basis. Appetizers include wonton tacos, mozzarella sticks, dynamite shrimp, steak quesadilla towers and cheeseburger sliders. A variety of burgers and sandwiches are available for both lunch and dinner. Entrees include shrimp and parmesan sirloin, double-glazed baby back ribs, crispy orange chicken, Cajun lime tilapia and chicken broccoli pasta alfredo. A number of entrees are served on skillets, such as the sizzling steak and cheese. In addition, a section of the menu is dedicated to meals that weigh in at under 550 calories.
