Aside from the setting, Amelia Island has historical significance dating back to colonial times and the earlier Native American inhabitants. Learn about the island's past at the Amelia Island Museum of History, which has a number of permanent exhibits featuring centuries-old artifacts and work. The museum also offers entertaining activities for families, such as the Ghost Walking tour, where a guide leads groups around the local graveyard while sharing local ghost stories. Historically themed birthday parties can also be arranged for children with options that range from Victorian tea parties to Native American pottery parties.

Aside from the stretch of beaches that offer ocean swimming, the park provides ample ground for picnics as well as full camping facilities, including electric hook-ups and fire rings. Wildlife viewing, which can be enjoyed along many of the hiking trails or bicycle paths, is one of the park's main attractions. Families with dogs are also welcome.

Island Falls Golf uses the slogan "Amelia Island's Family Attraction." While most miniature courses are imaginative, Island Falls is downright elaborate, with a series of waterfalls, bridges and tunnels that fit in with the coastal setting. The course also offers an old-fashioned snack bar with ice cream, soda pop and an array of candy. Island Falls is open year-round with shortened hours in the winter.
