RV Campsites around Amelia Island, Florida

With sunny summers seldom reaching above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and winters staying in the 60-degree range with crisp sea breezes, Amelia Island remains a destination spot throughout the year for RV campers. The small barrier island off the northeast coast of Florida is as well-known for its beautiful wilderness as its resorts and spas, but the best way to experience the island is at one of the its RV campgrounds.

  1. A River Runs Through It

    • Encompassing the north end of Amelia Island, Fort Clinch State Park hosts two campgrounds. One of these, Amelia River Campground has 40 campsites at the western tip of the island. Each site comes equipped with 20- or 30-amp electrical hookup, potable water, picnic table and fire ring. Site sizes vary, and the largest site can fit a rig up to 48 feet. Four of these sites permit hammock camping. There are on-site ADA restrooms, showers and laundry facilities, as well as a dump station. Well-behaved pets are also welcome. Throughout the campground, Spanish moss-covered oak trees provide ample shade.

    Sand Dunes and Sun

    • The experience at the Atlantic Beach Campground, at the western end of Fort Clinch State Park, differs greatly. While the facilities are similar--ADA restrooms, showers, laundry facilities and dump station--white sand dunes and bright sunshine take the place of the other campground's shady, moss-laden oaks. Atlantic Beach Campground has just 21 sites, and all accommodate recreational vehicles of varying sizes (but no longer than 48 feet) with 20- and 30-amp electrical service. Feel free to bring your well-behaved pet.

    Young in the Sun

    • Roughly 7 miles west of Amelia Island, Lofton Creek Campground is a state park that is more relaxed and casual about alcoholic beverages, music and campfires. The campground, on Highway A1A in Yulee, has recreational vehicle sites both near the highway for convenience or at the rear of the wooded park for more of a Florida-wilderness experience. Sites have electric, water and sewage hookups. Highlights of the park include the public boat launch, air-conditioned game room with pool table and cable television hookups. Pets are welcome and reservations are preferred.

    Kick Back, Long-Term

    • Also in Yulee, the privately owned Bow and Arrow Campground is a 60-site recreational vehicle park with a family-friendly atmosphere. The wooded, 5-acre park rents 30- and 50-amp sites on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The long-term camping makes it a popular spot for retirees. In addition to laundry facilities, showers, picnic tables and barbecue grills, the park also has cable, wireless Internet, an exercise room and an in-ground swimming pool. Pets are also welcome.
