Campgrounds Around Island Park, Idaho

Island Park is a town located in the extreme eastern section of Idaho, within a short driving distance of the Montana and Wyoming state lines. The main attraction near Island Park is Yellowstone Park, which is a short 20-minute drive away. Incorporated by local resort and campground owners, Island Park is a unique sort of town. It is only 500 feet wide at most points, but it is also 33 miles long. Because of its length, campers will have no trouble finding a place to stay within Island Park's town limits.
  1. Buffalo Run Campground

    • The Buffalo Run Campground is in Island Park and bills itself as "The Gateway to Yellowstone.'' The park is surrounded by the Targhee National Forest, which offers visitors a wide range of activities such as hiking, hunting and fishing. It is a full-service campground with five cabins that are equipped with kitchens. There are also 42 camping sites with electric and water. Of those 42 sites, 18 also have sewer. The campsites can handle RVs with 50-amp electric hookups. The amenities on the grounds include a pizza parlor and an espresso stand.

    Sawtelle Mountain Resort

    • Visitors to the The Sawtelle Mountain Resort in Island Park have plenty of options. In addition to a hotel, the Sawtelle Mountain Resort has cabins that were recently built, tent sites, RV sites and rooms in a bunkhouse. Offering a great view of the the Sawtelle and Jefferson Mountains, the resort also has a pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, volleyball and horseshoe pits, and a picnic pavilion. All of the campsites offer access to bathrooms and showers, and have fire pits. The RV sites are pull throughs and are 60 to 70 feet long.

    Valley View RV Park

    • The Valley View RV Park in Island Park has 50 full hook-up sites with new 20- to 50-amp electrical connections. There are also tent sites on the grounds, which include a large shower house and laundromat. All of the sites have plenty of room and are on level ground. Located near the Valley View RV park are numerous lakes and streams that fishermen will enjoy. In addition to the Targhee National Forest, the park is also within half an hour of Sawtelle Peak and Harriman State Park.
