St. George Island is a barrier island located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. It boasts nine miles of completely undeveloped beach property. There is fishing, kayaking, swimming, hiking and sightseeing, and native marine animals and wildlife are always in abundance. Taking an RV to St. George Island will give you the comfort of your own indoor space while allowing you to fully experience the relaxing environment. There is only one campground on St. George Island, and it is the one run by the state park system.
The entrance to the campground is four miles east of the park entrance. The campsites are located just past a marshy area. There are 60 total campsites, with 11 on the interior of the loop. All the sites are equipped for RV or tent camping. Grocery stores and supply shops are 10 miles away or more, but the beaches are quiet, and it is easy to access the more remote areas of the beach on foot or by boat. Five miles out of the nine miles of beach on this island are not accessible by RV or any other vehicle.
The camp provides restrooms and showers. There is electricity, water hookups and a dump station and each campsite has a grill, fire ring and picnic table. There are two boat ramps on the island and the camp provides a sheltered dining area, amphitheater and security lights at night around the bathrooms and other buildings. All campsites are within a 15-minute walk of the beach.
The fees are $9 per night from September to January (as of January 2010), and $15 February through August. Electricity costs $2 a day, if you use it. The camp is open all year. Pets are allowed in the overnight camp areas, but not on the beach, food areas or playgrounds. All pets must be on a leash less than six feet long, and the owners must have proof of vaccination. Domesticated wild animals are not permitted. Horses are permitted if the owner presents a negative Coggins test result upon entering the park. No campers under 18 are permitted overnight without an adult present.
