The Finger Lakes region in upstate New York is named for a chain of seven large lakes, as well as numerous smaller ones, that on a map resemble finger bones. Lodging choices throughout Finger Lakes include historic hotels and bed-and-breakfast accommodations. These lodging choices are near more than 100 wineries along Finger Lakes' four wine trails, where guided winery tours are available. The lakes also provide numerous opportunities for fishing and boating, or hiking in nearby wooded areas.
Geneva on the Lake, a AAA Four-Diamond Award hotel, sits on a 10-acre lakeside property on Seneca Lake, the largest in the Finger Lakes region. The lake covers 43,343 acres of surface area and has a 75.4-mile-long shoreline.
The resort, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, boasts formal gardens and a terrace shaded by towering pine trees. Resort amenities include in-suite spa treatments and fine dining in the Lancellotti Dining Room, a room with marble columns, 17th-century side chairs, Chinese vases and wall tapestries. The resort arranges winter walks through the Historic District and wine-tasting tours.
Its suites and studios have living rooms, dining rooms, one and a half baths, and kitchens. Select suites have fireplaces, patios and balconies. The town of Geneva offers apple farms, gardens and historic buildings, such as Smith Opera House.
