Orlando, Florida is a tourist location known for its extravagant attractions, such as Disney World, fancy hotels and things to do every day for those who have enough money. If you're traveling on a budget, no need to skip Orlando. There are still several fun things to do at low cost in this city.

  1. Orlando Museums

    • Orlando is home to several museums for a variety of interests, and can be visited at relatively low cost. Ripley's Believe it or Not museum is a throwback to the days of traveling freak shows and hosts a collection of bizarre artifacts, such as shrunken heads, the tallest man alive and more. For art students and enthusiasts, Orlando is the site of several fine art museums, such as the Cornell Fine Art Museum, the Zora Neale Hurston Art Museum and the Orlando Museum of Art. The Orlando Science Center is home to hands on science exhibits for kids, such as digging up dinosaur bones and standing in the center of a tornado. Children and adults alike may also enjoy the Orlando Zoo or Holy Land Experience, which is designed to simulate living in the era of Jesus.

    Gatorland

    • Gatorland in Orlando, Florida is the self proclaimed "Gator capital of the world", home to a menagerie of animals including alligators, crocodiles, birds and bears. Visitors to Gatorland can take a trip to the Alligator Island, where hundreds of alligators and crocodiles can be seen at once. Gatorland also houses Florida snakes, a flamingo lagoon, a petting zoo, aviary and jungle crocodiles. After visitors see the animals, they can take a trip through the Swamp Walk, cool off at the Gatorland splash park, see a crocodile wrestler or purchase souvenirs at the gift shop. Day passes to Gatorland, as of 2010, can be purchased at $22.99 for adults and $14.99 for children ages 3 to 12.

    The Marching Ducks

    • The Peabody Duck March is a free, quick event that can be seen at the Peabody Hotel. Each morning at the Peabody Hotel, at about 11 a.m., the Peabody ducks come down from their duck penthouse, get on the elevator and go into the lobby. Once in the lobby, the ducks march to the fountain to the tune of "King Cotton March" by John Philip Sousa and jump into the water. At 5 p.m., the Peabody ducks march back to the elevator and then on to their penthouse for the night.
