The capital of New York state, Albany, is the center of politics, the judicial system and business. For those who look past this exterior, however, Albany offers a handful of inviting activities for toddlers, too. Whether romping in the greenery, sharing a picnic with mom and dad or taking in one of the following activities, you'll discover a new Albany.
The Children's Museum of Science and Technology was designed specifically for parents and children to learn about science together. Many exhibits are tactile friendly allowing the kids explore through touch as well as through sight and sound. Exhibits include a planetarium, computer lab, science lab with electron microscopes, natural power, a section on the solar system and Operation W.I.L.D.-a living collection of exotic animal species. Also, for those who live in or are planning an extended visit in the Albany area, My Parent and Me is a five- week class exploring age appropriate science offered to preschoolers and their parents.

Take your toddler on a 75-minute amphibious tour of Albany. The Albany Aqua Ducks lead the family along in their cartoonish-looking bus as they explore historic Albany. Suddenly, the tour takes a dramatic turn as the amphibious bus drives nonchalantly into the Hudson River. For an element of surprise, don't tell the little ones what's coming up and watch with glee as their mouths drop to the floor when the bus enters the water. Tour guides dress as Henry Hudson and kids receive noise-makers, scavenger maps and prizes. Ages three and up.
