The big draw for visitors to Manasota Key is the barrier island's undeveloped beaches and wilderness--there are no stoplights, no high-rise condo developments and no roads wider than two lanes on this quiet little island. Sometimes, though, you want to do more than lounge on the beach, and when you do, you'll find plenty of attractions and activities in the nearby town of Englewood, just 15 minutes from the heart of Manasota Key.
Ainger Creek may be most popular as a spot to launch your boat, kayak or canoe into one of southwestern Florida's many waterways, but there's more than boating at this county park in Englewood. Visit Ainger Creek to check out Florida beyond the beach--explore the tidal swamp, marshland and pine and oak forests that surround the brackish creek. Be sure to bring bug spray and sunscreen if you plan to hike or hit the water.
