The Jersey Shore offers 90 miles of beach enjoyment for the whole family. There are public access beaches and private beaches all up and down the coast. Depending on the type of shore experience you are looking for there is a town or beach to fit your needs in New Jersey. If you would like a clean and safe place to swim and enjoy the sun, the Jersey Shore has several options.
Point Pleasant Beach has one of the largest permanent populations of any shore town in New Jersey. The stores, bars and tourist shops are not seasonal; most businesses are open all year round for the community to enjoy. The beach is clean and safe thanks to the local businesses and beach team who work to keep it beautiful. The beaches are monitored by a lifeguard team that polices the activity of all swimmers to assure that the beach is enjoyed by all. The surfing is also great in the early morning and early evening as the inlet at Manasquan (the northernmost point) provides great waves for surfers to ride. Swimming is also monitored and flags are flown to tell visitors if the water is safe for a swim. Swimming is at your own risk, but there are lifeguards at most public beaches and at all marked swimming locations.

Just a 40 minute ferry ride from Wall Street in New York, this Jersey beach is a favorite of folks from Manhattan and the rest of the five boroughs. The beach is 7 miles of the northernmost coastline of New Jersey, and offers great views of the ocean and New York City skyline. The beach attracts so many visitors from New York and northern New Jersey because it consistently rated as one of the cleanest beaches in New Jersey by travel websites and magazines. While Sandy Hook has lost tourists to larger and more commercial beach towns like Point Pleasant and Atlantic City over the years, the people who maintain the Sandy Hook beaches still take pride in being the cleanest beach in the state. If you are simply looking for a clean beach with limited glitz and glamour, then Sandy Hook should be high on your list.

The southernmost point of New Jersey has several public and private beaches that are rated by travel websites and magazines as among the cleanest in New Jersey. Cape May Beach has clean beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. Depending on the swimming conditions you are looking for, this beach offers something for everyone. The Cape May/Lewes Ferry will transport you and your vehicle between the beach and Lewes, Delaware. There is a cost for admission to the beach and the beach patrol does check regularly for beach tags. As of March 2010, a season-long beach tag is only $25.00. You can also get a weekly pass for $13.00, a 3-day pass for $10.00 and a daily pass for $5.00. These fees are well worth the money for this southern New Jersey treasure.
