Attractions in Northern Florida

Northern Florida is full of many fun and exciting cities that offer great attractions for all ages. Northern Florida offers beaches, historic cities and great sporting venues for its many guests to enjoy. When planning your trip, knowing the great attractions Northern Florida has to offer will help make for a memorable vacation.

  1. Saint Augustine

    • Saint Augustine is a historic beach town known as the location of Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth. Saint Augustine is also home to an alligator farm with 22 species of crocodiles and alligators as well as tropical birds and other reptiles. The Saint Augustine Lighthouse and Museum is an active lighthouse which allows you to climb to the top of the lighthouse and walk around. There are also many historical buildings and sites that can be toured on foot or by horse-drawn carriage.

    Jacksonville

    • Jacksonville is home to the Anheuser-Busch brewery. Tours are available where you can watch the brewing process and sample beers. While in Jacksonville, you can visit Jacksonville Municipal Stadium to watch a Jaguars game. You can also, visit Jacksonville Landing for shopping, restaurants, nightclubs and family entertainment.

    Gainesville and Alachua County

    • Gainesville is the home of the University of Florida and its Gators football team. While visiting the campus, the Harn Museum of Art is available to view art from around the world. Off the university's campus, the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens gives its visitors a chance to walk through a hummingbird and a butterfly garden, as well as several other special gardens and a chance to catch a glimpse of a bald eagle.

    Tallahassee

    • Tallahassee is Florida's state capitol and home to several attractions. The capitol building is available to tour. The Museum of Florida History says that the last employees left the building in 1978. The building was then restored and reopened in 1982 as a museum. The Mary Brogan Museum is another attraction. It features art and hands on science exhibits.

    Fort Walton Beach

    • Fort Walton Beach has many beautiful beaches to visit. The Indian Temple Mound and Museum is also located here and offers visitors a glimpse into the Native American history that dates back 12,000 years ago. The museum has artifacts from pirates, Civil War relics and early explorers. Fort Walton Beach is also home to Florida's Gulfarium, which is known for the being the oldest marine show aquarium in the United States.
