Start searching for tickets early. As soon as you plan your Christmas Eve trip, start looking for tickets. The earlier you book them, the better they will be on average, especially if you have a large group that wants to sit near each other.
Choose your location wisely. If you're going home for the holidays, you won't have a choice, but if you're taking a vacation to get away from the holiday rush, many airlines offer good airline tickets to warmer climates, including the Caribbean and Hawaii.
Buy a smaller number of tickets at one time, or buy through different websites. If you are traveling with a large group, the price per ticket may be higher, just because you are searching for six tickets at a time. However, if you book two or three at one time, the price per ticket can be substantially lower.
Take a midnight flight on Christmas Eve. A midnight flight is technically going out on Christmas Day. This means that the prices can be lower. Many people don't want to fly on major holidays, so you may be able to take advantage of these savings.
Book your hotel at the same time as your airline tickets. Taking advantage of a bundle like this can sometimes mean big savings on your Christmas Eve travel.
