Seniors are allowed to board the airplane before other guests using priority boarding rights. These rights are reserved for seniors and other passengers who may require assistance boarding the plane or who may need more time to safely board the plane and store their luggage. The airline may also provide passengers who need assistance an escort on and off of the airplane. This includes passengers who need help stowing their luggage.
Senior passengers are granted assistance throughout the airport. This includes assistance from the ticket counter to the gate including assistance through security. Seniors who require assistance may be able to move more quickly through the security process through dedicated lines, depending on availability in the airport. Seniors are also granted a ride through the airport to their designated gate by airline or airport personnel. All guests travelling with the senior passenger may go through security and receive a ride to the gate with these passengers.
Seniors are allowed to bring their medication on-board the airplane and to take it through security no matter how much space it takes up. The only exception to this may be oxygen tanks which cannot be used while on-board the aircraft due to pressure inconsistencies which may make the oxygen tank unstable. Seniors must have a valid prescription for all medications not sold over the counter that are being brought through airport security.
Some airlines may provide a travel discount for senior passengers. Check with your airline before booking to see if there is a discount for senior citizens that is applicable to your trip. This right is limited to the discretion of each individual airline. Discounts on airfare may not be applicable if your trip is booked through a third party such as a travel site or travel agent. For example, in India both Indian Airlines and Air India give seniors a discount of 45-50% on economy airfare.
