Know your travel dates and whether or not they are flexible. If your dates are flexible you can choose to search for airline tickets over the course of a few days. Sometimes departing on Monday morning rather than Sunday evening can save you hundreds of dollars on airfare.
Make the decision as to whether or not you want to book via a travel website, such as Expedia or Travelocity or directly through your airline of choice, such as Jet Blue or Continental.
Visit the website from which you want to purchase your airline tickets. Booking your flight is an almost identical process no matter which website you use.
Enter your departure date and city, your arrival city, the date you will return home and the number of tickets you need to purchase. You can also choose your departure time. Note that the number of passengers is listed by age because discounts and safety measures are often given to children and seniors.
Browse the list of choices and airlines available for your travel times. Choose the flight that interests you the most to continue booking your flight.
Choose your seats and enter the names and birthdates of all passengers for whom you are purchasing tickets. Enter your contact information and your credit card information and click "Purchase".
Confirm your ticket order, correct any mistakes and finalize your purchase. Tickets are emailed to you when purchased online.
