How to Travel to Scotland From the USA

The best way to travel from the USA to Scotland is to board a flight. There are direct flights to Scotland from some American airports. There are also strong transport links between Scotland and airports in London, Amsterdam, Paris, Reykjavik, Iceland, and Frankfurt, Germany.
  1. Direct Flights

    • As of August 2010, direct flights from the USA to Scotland leave from three U.S. airports. Flights are available from New York, Orlando and Philadelphia to Glasgow. If you are leaving from New York you can also board a direct flight to Edinburgh.

Direct flights from New York to Scotland leave from Newark Liberty airport and are managed by Continental Airlines. These flights arrive at both the Glasgow airport and the Edinburgh airport. Orlando International flights to Glasgow are managed by Virgin Atlantic. US Airways flies from Philadelphia International airport to the Glasgow airport.

    Indirect Flights

    • Scotland has solid transport links with major European airports such as London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Reykjavik airport and Frankfurt-Hahn. These destinations are linked to nearly every major city in the USA.

    Cruise travel

    • Cruise company P&O sails cruise ships from New York to Southampton, England. Southampton has good air and rail links with Scotland; however the cruise option is likely to be expensive compared with air travel.
