DIA is the largest and busiest of the Denver airports, with air traffic flying through nationally and internationally. The airport offers 130 nonstop flights daily throughout the world, including short flights to other Colorado cities like Aspen. Because of the high volume of people traveling through DIA, food and shops are all over the airport to entertain those long layovers.

Colorado's Jefferson County, located on U.S. 36 slightly northwest of Denver, owns and runs the small Rocky Mountain Metropolitan. According to the airport's website, the "location doesn't compete with Denver International Airport's congested airspace, allowing controllers to give priority to inbound and outbound traffic." This Broomfield, Colorado airport is conveniently located near Boulder's University of Colorado campus and the Rocky Mountain National Park.
