Airports Near Yellowstone Park

Yellowstone National Park is in northwestern Wyoming and was the first national park in United States, founded in 1872. This park features spectacular natural landmarks, such as the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the Old Faithful Geyser. Vacationers have access to the park's northern, eastern and western gates via local airports. While Yellowstone National Park is open every day of the year, the northern entrance near Gardiner, Montana, is the only entrance open year-round.

    • The largest airport near Yellowstone National Park is the Yellowstone Regional Airport, or YRA, in Cody, Wyoming. This airport is approximately 30 minutes from the eastern entrance of the national park. As of winter 2010, the two major airlines with flights in and out of Yellowstone Regional Airport are Delta and United Express. Delta flights typically arrive from and fly to Salt Lake City, Utah, while Denver, Colorado, is the base of flights to and from Yellowstone Regional Airport for United Express. Yellowstone Regional Airport is open year-round. The airport offers short-term and long-term parking. Passengers have access to car rental services, and shuttle transportation to and from Yellowstone National Park is available.

    Gardiner Public Airport

    • The Gardiner Public Airport is in Gardiner, Montana, approximately 15 minutes from the northern entrance of Yellowstone National Park. This airport is open to the public year-round. Gardiner Public Airport has one paved airstrip for private aircraft, such as general aviation -- meaning aircraft not used for military or commercial purposes -- or charter jets. No major airline carriers fly to or from Gardiner Public Airport. The airport is less than 10 minutes from Gardiner's downtown hotels and restaurants. No car rental services are available, but transportation from the airport to hotels can be arranged by calling the airport in advance. The Montana Aircraft company offers flight lessons at this airport.

    Yellowstone Airport

    • Yellowstone Airport, not to be confused with Yellowstone Regional Airport, is in West Yellowstone, Montana, a 20-minute drive from Yellowstone National Park's western entrance. This airport is a municipal facility. Yellowstone Airport offers one paved runway for general aviation aircraft, but does not facilitate commercial class jets. The airport does not offer car rental services, but shuttle transportation to West Yellowstone hotels from the airport is available if the airport is notified in advance. The airport is approximately five minutes north of the hotels and restaurants in West Yellowstone's central business district. Yellowstone Airport is only open from June through September.
