Richmond International Airport Public Transportation Options

Richmond International Airport is located seven miles southeast of downtown Richmond, Virgina. The airport serves as a hub to some of the state's major tourist attractions, including the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and Parkway and Virginia Beach. As of April 2011, the Greater Richmond Transit Company serves the airport with limited weekday bus service. Additional ground transportation options from the airport include taxis and limousine services.
  1. Greater Richmond Transit Company Bus 28

    • Route 28, operated by the Greater Richmond Transit Company (ridegrtc.com), is an express bus service linking downtown Richmond with Richmond International Airport. Normally, Route 28 originates and terminates at the White Oaks Village Park-N-Ride. On occasion, the route provides limited service beyond White Oaks Village to the airport along the routing for bus 56. As of April 2011, the bus doesn't operate on weekends and an adult fare for the express service was $2.

    Greater Richmond Transit Company Bus 56

    • The Greater Ricmond Transit Company (ridegrtc.com) operates Route 56 between downtown Richmond and Richmond International Airport. The journey time is approximately 30 minutes between downtown and the airport. Route 56 only operates on weekdays in a limited capacity in the morning and late afternoon, between approximately 5 and 8 a.m. and 4 and 5:30 p.m. As of April 2011, there was no weekend service and an adult fare was $1.50.

    Taxis and Limousines

    • Taxis at Richmond International Airport are available on the lower level curbside, next to the terminal's north and south parking garages. As of April 2011, approximately 20 ground transportation providers are authorized to provide limousine, sedan and shared-ride services at the airport. For example, CMC Ground Transportation (cmclimo.com) provides walk-up sedan service and pre-arranged limousine service to and from the airport.

    Other Transportation Options

    • In addition to public transit, taxi and limousine service, rental cars are available at Richmond International Airport. Rental car agencies are available at counters in the terminal's lower level, close to the airport's central entrance. As of April 2011, vehicles can be rented Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Cars are usually available from all providers, but it's always a good idea to make a reservation, especially during holiday periods.
