Port Authority Bus Information

Located in midtown Manhattan near Times Square, the Port Authority Bus Terminal is a beehive of activity, where buses depart for all parts of North America. The vast underground network of stores, shops, bus berths, ticket booths and corridors are also connected to the NYC subway and bus system.
  1. History

    • The Port Authority was established in 1921 to administer the common interests of New Jersey and New York in regards to the shared harbor region. One of the first tasks was to construct bridges and tunnels uniting the two states. On a normal day, over 200,000 people and 7,200 buses use the busy bus complex.

    Bus Lines

    • Major bus lines that operate out of the Port Authority include Greyhound, Grayline, Olympia Trails, Bonanza, New Jersey Transit, Susquehanna, Shortlines, Suburban Trails and Peter Pan Lines.

    Regional Transportation System

    • Common regional destinations from the Port Authority include the Meadowlands Sports Complex, Atlantic City, Foxwoods Casino, Long Island and upstate New York. A second bus terminal, George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal, is convenient for those commuters traveling from northern New Jersey and Rockland County, New York.
